What share of wrong-fuel searches are about petrol in a diesel?
Petrol in a diesel accounts for 56.8% of UK wrong-fuel searches that name a specific mix-up, against 21.5% for diesel in a petrol, in the Fuel Fixer Google Ads search-terms report covering the account's lifetime to its August 2026 export.
44.4% of all searches in the report name a specific mix-up; the rest are general, such as "wrong fuel near me". The nozzles explain the imbalance: a petrol nozzle fits a diesel filler neck, a diesel nozzle does not fit a petrol one.

How far to trust it
These are the searches the ads were eligible to appear for, so they reflect the account's keywords and budgets as well as driver behaviour: a reliable guide to the mix of problems, not a measure of total UK search volume.
